Creating a tablescape

Second hand. First love.

Almost everything on this table was purchased second-hand. I love mixing styles and patterns to create a look all my own. The flower-pattern bowl I found years ago and kept for just the right moment.

A few items were purchased from my adorable neighbor at Caffetteria, Golden & Pine. If you haven’t visited their home boutique in the Shops of Prairie Village, please do. Picking up a hand towel, placemat, or vase from Golden & Pine can add just the right accent to your room or table. You don’t need to spend a lot of money, it’s about finding items you love and mixing them with thrifted goodies, or items you already have in your own home.

Reserve an area in your basement (or closet) and save items you may use later for entertaining or holiday decor. Choose one dollar treasures from garage sales and think about color and season so you have groups of items that all work together. Take for example the flower-pattern bowl from the image above. I loved these second-hand bowls so I grabbed them on the cheap years ago. Then, I kept an eye out for other items in the same color family and textures that would build an overall look. Granted, I was playing the long game with these bowls, but I wouldn’t change the process. It's part of the fun of creating— seeing a vision from afar and watching it come to life.
